Lisa Knight, owner of DV Apple Logistics LLC, started her company in 2019. DV Apple specializes in concrete flatwork, sidewalks, and concrete steps, which is how the company made its first dollar.

With the goal of becoming a leader in the construction industry, Lisa is looking to help others who look like her to achieve their goals. By operating many avenues, including working with young people to educate them on the opportunities available for them, and how to achieve them, Lisa is instilling in others that there is nothing that they cannot do and “excuses are the nails that built the house of failure.”

On a typical day, Lisa is up at 5:00 AM to pray and have coffee, and check emails around 6:30 and have a conversation with her partner about the day. By staying in constant communication about projects, she encourages her team to be innovative, creative, and on the cutting edge of business.

As a 100% minority-owned and 51% female-owned business, Lisa has faced many challenges in the construction industry, however, she does not let adversity stop her. She is a firm believer in seeking alternate routes when something doesn’t work out the way she planned. She was drawn to the construction industry because of the lack of diversity and the inequities that exist within the industry. When asked about the best career advice she’s ever heard, Lisa said, “Follow your heart but take your brain with you. Utilize those around you who have wisdom and experience and work hard. There will always be people around to tell you what you cannot do.”

Lisa is looking at other members of the construction community to encourage women to participate in the industry by becoming true allies through actionable items, including time, money, and experience.
